Technical Capacity
Development

Through this program

Waymark seeks to create a knowledge pool of organizations. The purpose of this program is twofold – for one it will ensure that organizations who are challenged to put forward the good work done will be provided with customized support from the experienced Waymark team. On the other hand, this will be a fund-raising tool for Waymark to be eventually sustainable to conduct our own flagship projects. The funds raised will be a resource for matching grants from the donors.
Reason:

Reason for the initiative for the technical capacity development of the community based, non-profit organizations and other institutions.

India is one of the growing economies in the world today. However, it is also pertinent to mention that the country still has one the largest marked gap in poverty index. “Vasant Desai (1988) observed that the development, by definition, is the act or process of developing growth evolution with in framework of available resources. Its primary aim in India is the removal of poverty and all the socio-economic evils which are interlinked with it. Rural development is therefore, a consciences effort at raising the standard of living of the people in 6, 38,596 villages in that 5, 93,731 are in habited villages and 44,865 are unhabited villages in India.”

However, as we find more often, than not, even after more than seventy years of independence, India still has one of the largest loads of migrant population. Added to this, the number of environment refugees are getting higher and higher. An unprecedented influx of unskilled and /or semiskilled labours in the metros are challenging the resources for growth and development. It has been observed, over the years, that since institutions have been developed to address, localized issues with local resources, at times they have often felt challenged. Most find the challenges revolving around needs and goals, financial constraints, maintaining credible data, creating learning documents based on monitoring and evaluation and an overall program management cycle. These organization’s also find it difficult to overcome the challenges faced during advocacy, strategy planning, behaviour change communications.

Keeping these above-mentioned issues in mind, Waymark has come up with a unique intervention process of supporting these needs. Waymark, has a pool of resource persons with extensive experience on aspects of business planning, strategy development and program management. Waymark looks at Technical capacity development as a process to support organizations who feel challenged to be more effective and sustainable. Since communities are very organic in their existence and are constantly changing, the community-based organization’s also feel the need to change in strategies and requirements to achieve the vision mission of the organization. This is where Waymark find their mission to enrich lives and find ways to solve some of the existing problems by seeking to help those who are doing meaningful work to bring change at the grassroot.

Set-up

Setting up the Project
Waymark’s framework for understanding the requirement of technical capacity development derives from Hannan and Carroll (1995). According to these authors, organizations have three distinguishing facets.

  • Organizations are durable social structures, designed to persist over time and routinely and continuously carry out specific actions.
  • They are reliable in so far as they are intended to be good at doing the same thing in the same way over and over.
  • They are internally and externally accountable for performing in accor dance with agreed-on standards and procedures.

Although the features of durability, reliability, and accountability may be embodied differently in a CBO/ NGO than in a corporate setting, any organization must have these capacities to serve its vision and mission. However, Waymark looks at to include other institutions under this program on technical capacity development because more or less any organized body has requirements for organization growth.

The Technical Capacity Development project of Waymark will primarily focus on the needs of community-based organization and/or non-profit organization’s and the challenges faced by them. One key intervention will be capacity development through regular training and workshop. These will be conducted at venues that will be decided with careful consideration. Waymark looks forward to conduct block and district level trainings. A principal focus of current plan will be to improve and develop their organizational capacity.

This will include project specific capacity as well as the capacity of the existing human resource of the organizations. The other area where Waymark will also look is at monitoring, evaluation and learning of projects run by CBOs/NGOs and develop credible reports that will empower these organizations to continue the good work that they are doing and establish best practice methods.
